This course is designed for therapists who want a more complete understanding of neuro-oncological processes and how they affect clinical decisions in rehabilitation. Content will explore rehabilitation implications surrounding the assessment and treatment of brain and spine tumors and the neurotoxic effects one may experience undergoing chemotherapy
Neuroanatomy and tumor histology will be reviewed with the intent to describe how these factors influence prognosis and treatment. Discussions are based on peer-reviewed literature and delivered in a case study format. Participants are required to reflect on their current knowledge and become active learners by engaging in a case study.
Information and handouts are provided on reducing fall risk in those diagnosed with nervous system tumors or chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. At the end of the course participants will have a framework in which to help make important clinical decisions. They will have a better understanding of how to assess, intervene and ultimately help those who are experiencing complex, often distressing, diagnoses.
